2016 ICN Global Nursing Leadership Institute

Geneva, Switzerland, 22 January 2016 -The International Council of Nurses (ICN) today announced the invitation for applications to attend the 2016 Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI). Interested nurses in senior or executive level positions from across the world can access all information and application forms on http://leadership.icn.ch/gnli/. The 2016 GNLI will take place from 17-23 September 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland, where ICN is headquartered.
Strong nursing leadership is critical if we are to make our voices heard,” said Pierre Théraulaz, ICN’s Acting Chief Executive Officer. “Nurses have a key contribution to make in the global health agenda and the GNLI helps prepare nurses for that role.”

With the theme “Nursing opportunities in a world focused on sustainable development”, the seven-day, residential programme will enable selected participants to learn how to understand their role in developing a workforce able to meet new challenges; contribute to strengthening health systems; and influence the development and implementation of policy at the international, national and local levels.

Around the world, political agendas are focusing on the importance of HRH planning in order to achieve the newly approved sustainable development goals and universal health coverage.   Today, nursing leaders are facing some of the greatest opportunities to build partnerships and alliances, to strengthen the health workforce.  Participants of the 2016 Global Nursing Leadership Institute will  learn about how we provide quality nursing care today as well as plan our human resources for health in order to meet the care needs of future generations.

Established in 2009, the Global Nursing Leadership Institute offers an advanced leadership programme for nurses in senior and executive level positions in high, middle and low income countries. The programme draws on the expertise of international expert faculty, allowing participants to review and enhance their national and global leadership skills and behaviours within a collaborative and stimulating learning culture.

The 2016 GNLI will be facilitated by Lesley Bell, former ICN nurse consultant.  Special thanks to Pfizer, Inc., our founding sponsor for the Global Nursing Leadership Institute, who is once again supporting the programme in 2016, and to the Burdett Trust for Nursing who supported the GNLI from 2011 to 2015.

Further information and an application form can be downloaded from the ICN websitehttp://leadership.icn.ch/gnli/. The closing date for submission of applications is 15 March 2016.
